Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is an advanced resuscitation course for the recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies in pediatric patients. Designed for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the management of critically ill pediatric patients, learners will apply their BLS skills as well as expect practice and training in a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, treatment algorithms and high-performance teams to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children. Become a practiced and strong member or lead a PALS team with this important training program.
Part 1: Online Learning
You must register and pay for Part 1 directly on Heart & Stroke's website. Your online learning is self-directed and can be completed at your own pace.
Classroom learning includes essential hands-on skills practice and skills testing necessary to support life-saving care during a cardiovascular emergency. Participants must complete Part 1 before attending Part 2 of the ACLS Calgary course.
Bring your certificate of completion to Part 2 as proof of eligibility. Complete Part 2 in order to receive your two-year certification.
Part 1: 6 hours online learning
Part 2: 9 hours in-class time
2-year certification in Heart & Stroke: PALS.
Part 1: $53.95 + GST
Part 2: $249 + GST
- Attend all teaching and testing sessions of the PALS course.
- Obtain at least 84% on the mandatory written exam.
- Successfully complete all skills evaluation stations.
The PALS course in Calgary leverages a student’s existing clinical skills, knowledge and proficiency. The following competencies are expected of students entering an PALS Provider course:
- Pediatric systematic approach
- High-quality CPR (Basic Life Support)
- Respiratory emergencies and early interventions
- Shock emergencies and early interventions
- Cardiopulmonary arrest and early interventions
- Post–cardiac arrest management
- Multi-rescuer resuscitation and team dynamics
Please note, your registration is for part 2 only. You must register and pay for Part 1 directly on Heart & Stroke's™ website. Part 1 must be completed prior to the date you're selecting for Part 2.
Successful completion of PALS does NOT automatically renew your BLS. Your BLS must be current at the time of your PALS. You can select to add-on a BLS Renewal to be included in your PALS course for $59 + GST.
